Latkes, latkes, latkes!
Surprise! It’s me landing in your inbox on a lazy Sunday morning. I woke up later today than I have all year–Thanksgiving week took its toll–and am feeling like a new person. I hope that you enjoyed your holiday weekend and are ready to roll into the next celebration.
For many of us, when the sun goes down tonight we will mark the first night of Hanukkah. Lighting candles on the menorah, spinning the dreidel, and eating latkes is how we roll! In the Sly Rooster Recipe Index, you will find two posts for latkes (delicious potato pancakes)–but seriously, we all have heard of “latkes” right?–so I thought I’d highlight them here today in case you are so inclined to make a batch. If you are “fooded-out” (I think I just made that up) be bold and make them the meal, served with apple sauce and sour cream. If you are ambitious and/or traditional, serve the latkes alongside a brisket. You’ll find a less traditional recipe for Beef Brisket here on Sly Rooster and many, many variations on the Internet, some of which you can make in your slow-cooker.
But regardless of whether or not you celebrate Hanukkah, give one of these recipes a try. Latkes are universally appealing and in the words of the great Adam Sandler, you have “eight crazy nights” to celebrate! Enjoy and Happy Hanukkah!
